Frame preparation, what and why?

Chasing, facing and reaming. Here are some images to put 'faces' to the names...

Before any steel frame build, time needs to be taken ensure its various interfaces are prepped and ready to receive components. Threads are 'chased' to ensure they are clean and run true ready for receiving the bottom bracket in this instance.

‘Facing’ cleans the receiving surface, leaving it flush and free of excess paint, something which can lead to misalignment if not removed prior to components being installed. 'Reaming' refers to the removal of excess/uneven material from within the seat or head tube before receiving headset cups or a seat post. 🌟
